11th Ali Club Tour - 2006 - Barnham Broom - Captain Pete

Captain’s Log: The traditional start to the tour was executed with a traditional Full English Breakfast at Frankie & Benny's and then we set off for Norfolk only to hear on route of our first ever withdrawal through sickness - Stefan had gone down with flu. This required a quick team rethink and the first ever threesome on tour was born - Mick was to join the Love Doctors Bazza and Chris who was due to arrive early evening. He eventually did at 11.13pm much to John's delight who won money on Chris's arrival sweepstake. By now we had already experienced the Valley Course which was great and the hotel cuisine which was equally good. So then it was time to present medals to our four members who had achieved 10 tours. Day 2 was very wet and Saint managed to get changed in the Ladies changing room without realising it until he went back after his round - you couldn't make it up! We then played the long awaited Old Boys v Youth 9 hole tournament. The Old Boys triumphed thanks to an O J chip & putt-off victory over Mick which was rewarded that evening with medals all round. The losing Captain lost all his mates. After last year's "Strength to The Ali Club" wrist bands success we followed up this year with luminous ones. Bazza then drew the Jack for next year's Captaincy again - I think we are in for a different type of tour in 2007. Saint won the sweepstake on who would draw The Jack. Victory was then sealed with just 2 points separating the top 3 teams - the closest since Kevin lost on a count back in The New Forest in 2001 - and who won that year?
